Description

During this all-practical three-hour workshop you will learn how to use a variety of studio equipment and make a start with working with a model. The day will be held at our new studio facility in central Kettering, Northants.

The workshop will include:

  • How to set up your camera for studio photography
  • How studio lights work
  • The light modifiers available to us
  • Using a flash meter
  • Basic portrait lighting techniques
  • Working with a model and directing poses

You will have the opportunity to take your own images as we progress in order to get familiar with the equipment and gain confidence in directing a model.

Please arrive at 9.45am for a start at 10am prompt. The workshop will finish at 1pm.

Teas/coffees will be provided but please bring any other refreshments that you may require.

The purpose of the workshop is to get you up to speed with the basics of studio photography so that you will feel confident in attending any of our forthcoming themed studio workshops or indeed hiring the studio and a model yourself for your own projects.

This workshop is limited to just four delegates with two trainers and one model to ensure that you have plenty of 1-2-1 attention tailored to your camera equipment. A reasonable level of photographic understanding is required prior to attending this workshop, for example knowledge of aperture, shutter speed and ISO together with focussing techniques and white balance. Full manual mode will be used throughout the workshop but you need not have used that before provided you have an understanding of the terms mentioned. Should these terms be new to you we would advise attending our Digital Photography Course: Part 1 prior to this workshop.

Please note that there is no parking at the studio so public car parks must be used. Full details of suggested car parks and directions will be provided upon booking. Parking is currently free on Sundays. Note that there is approximately a 300m walk to the studio, which is on the first floor of the building and is accessed via an external steel staircase.

Images shown here are for illustration only but some of the techniques depicted will be introduced. Complicated sets will not be possible on this introductory day but will be explored in future events. The model attending this workshop will vary depending on availability.
