Next Available Dates:
Saturday 21st July 2012
Sedgebrook Hall, Northamptonshire
Price £125
Learning how to use and control light is fundamental to improving your photography. On this one day course we will concentrate on how we can add to and modify the light within our images using flash and how this can be applied to portrait photography.
You will learn about:
Light sources and properties of light
Built-in flash and flashguns
Automatic & manual flash modes
Introduction to off-camera flash
Introduction to studio flash
Light modifiers such as softboxes and gels
How to use a flash meter
Portrait tips
Working with models and posing techniques
......and much more
We will start with a classroom based session going through the theory behind various lighting techniques and introducing you to the equipment at our disposal. Before lunch we will do a number of practical exercises using on-board flash and trying out a number of techniques for improving our flash-lit portraits.
In the afternoon we will have the opportunity to try out some more advanced techniques with a model in our impromptu studio space using both studio flash equipment and an off-camera wireless flash setup.
You will leave the course with a selection of fashion portrait images and a whole lot of knowledge about lighting to apply to your own subjects.
The workshop is being held at Sedgebrook Hall in Northamptonshire and includes a buffet lunch and refreshments throughout the day. The course will commence at 10am and finish around 4pm.
With a maximum class size of just six and two tutors there will be the opportunity for one-to-one attention during the practical session to ensure that you are getting the most from the day.
If you are travelling from further afield you can book a hotel room at Sedgebrook Hall to make a weekend of it. Further details about the venue and directions are available from their website.
You will need to bring a separate flashgun to gain the most from the on-board flash practical session. We have spare Canon flashguns that you may borrow if you are Canon user. During the off-camera flash and studio lighting practical sessions you will be using our flash equipment.
This course is suitable for you if you understand aperture and shutter speed and how to set them on your camera. We will be using the full manual exposure mode at some points during the day but you will be given full guidance on how this should be used and need not have used this before. This workshop is therefore the ideal follow-up to our Beginning DSLR Photography Course or for those who are more comfortable with the basic photographic techniques.
Please note that this course is for DSLR's only. Unfortunately hybrid, compact system cameras or bridge cameras are not suitable. If you are in any doubt as to whether your camera is suitable please contact us. If your camera is unsuitable for this course please remember that we can offer one-to-one sessions where we can further explore flash and portrait photography dedicated to your equipment.
